The Turisme de Barcelona consortium sustainability scheme (BST) was involved in organising a pioneering course for professionals in the sector of accessible tourism and customer service for those with disabilities and other needs. For two days operators in the sector discovered the biggest hurdles for persons with reduced mobility when accessing the various public establishments in the city.

Organised jointly by Barcelona City Council, through the Directorate of Tourism and the Municipal Institute for Persons with Disabilities, and the entities PREDIF and Fundació ECOM, the course was aimed at professionals in the tourism sector and local tourism businesses.

The initiative was intended to encourage both entities working in the area of functional diversity and public and private operators in the tourism sector to work towards a 100% accessible city and make the city a high quality and innovative tourism destination in this respect.
