This Monday, Turisme de Barcelona will be marking World Tourism Day with an initiative designed to emphasise the city’s friendly, hospitable nature when welcoming visitors, while conveying a message of good citizenship and coexistence.

Under the slogan “Barcelona welcomes you, take care of her”, Turisme de Barcelona’s information team will be out and about distributing 6,000 lollipops to tourists at five popular sightseeing spots – Plaça Catalunya, Sagrada Família, Avinguda Catedral, Passeig de Gràcia and Park Güell – to reinforce its dual message that appeals directly to visitor awareness while highlighting the importance of tourism in the city.

The initiative is part of the events marking World Tourism Day, which the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) organises every year to raise awareness among the international community about the social, cultural, political and economic value of tourism within the framework of its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This year, the day will be focusing on the sector’s ability to promote inclusive development while generating opportunities for thousands of people around the world.
