Trade mission to Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom

Two-pronged promotional event in two Asian countries and in the UK market.

This month Turisme de Barcelona took part in two promotional events in the Asian and UK markets to boost Barcelona’s position as a cultural, food and shopping destination.

We took part in a trade mission, with the Catalan Tourism Agency (CTA) and fourteen businesses from the sector, to South Korea and Japan. The aim was to promote the destination among travel trade members in a market that is booming. South Korea is the market that has grown the most over the past five years in Catalonia, up 18% over last year, with visitor numbers of 270,000. Tourists from Korea spent 345 million euros, with daily spending levels of 427 € per person. Japan is the leading source market in Asia for visitors to Catalonia.

A culture specialist from Turisme de Barcelona went on a trade mission to the UK, spending four days in London to make contacts and build a segmented database of cultural travel operators and programmers, by markets and themes, specialising, in this case, in classical music and opera.
