The travel-data provider Adara has performed a study according to which there has been an increase of more than 29 % in searches for flights to China in recent weeks. Although it remains cautious in its forecasts, Adara has also detected some kind of movement from China and, while searches and bookings had been going down since mid-January, they are now revealing an upward trend.
The report shows that travellers are looking for flights, and bookings to China are increasing, albeit at a slower rate.
Market studies carried out by Turespaña reveal that China is currently most concerned about cases of Covid-19 brought into the country and this also reduces its trust in external markets. Nevertheless, as a whole, trends in Chinese tourism point to a decline in mass tourism and more of a focus on nature and visits to less-busy cultural attractions involving car journeys with the family and loved ones. With this in mind, the Chinese tourism sector considers that luxury, or premium, tourism may have great potential in this new era.
