Turisme de Barcelona has organised the first edition of awards designed to encourage best practices in the tourism sector. The Barcelona Sustainable Tourism awards for best practices recognises companies' hard work and dedication in terms of environmental, social and cultural sustainability and accessibility. This year's award winners were the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, the restaurant Lasal del Varador, Sternalia Productions and the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB).

The award for best practices in environmental sustainability went to the restaurant Lasal del Varador, for its slow food prepared with organic, local and seasonal products. The winner of the cultural sustainability category was Sternalia Productions, recognised for its work in promoting certain buildings which had previously remained in the shadow of Barcelona's bigger tourist attractions, including the Palau Requesens, the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia and the Fabra Observatory. For accessibility, the Barcelona Sustainable Tourism best practice award was given to the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site. This architectural site with over 100 years of history, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, has become a cultural space that is accessible to persons with functional diversity.

The social sustainability winner was a project for inclusion through sport coordinated by Trinijove and sponsored by the Barcelona International Convention Centre. The sponsorship covered full kit and training and competition materials.
