Marian Muro, new director general

Turisme de Barcelona's new director is appointed just a few days before the Covid-19 crisis

The Turisme de Barcelona general council appointed Marian Muro new director general on 27th February. Muro is a lawyer specialising in association and tourism law and her appointment to the post came just a few days before the coronavirus outbreak hit Italy and Spain and the WHO declared Covid-19 a global pandemic.

With her in-depth knowledge of the running of public bodies and businesses, our new director general took the helm of the consortium at a time of unprecedented crisis that affects the tourism sector as a whole.

Muro's vocation to serve has led her to put together a raft of proposals to face the post-coronavirus period and relaunch Barcelona as a key tourist destination. She assures us, and repeats with conviction, that public-private cooperation is essential together with forging alliances with a shared strategic vision that will allow Barcelona to position itself as an innovative, enterprising and sustainable tourist destination.

Against this backdrop, she has launched a training plan for tourism enterprises and a digital campaign (#BarcelonaVisitsYou) to keep Barcelona in the collective imagination and disseminate the initiatives of the city's tour operators while the lockdown lasts. The consortium is revising its entire 2020 Action Plan and focusing on those actions that bring the best returns in the short and medium term, with Spanish and neighbouring markets in mind.
