Barcelona, the Second Most Requested Conference Destination

After receiving the World Travel Award for best meeting and conference destination in 2017, Barcelona has now also been recognised as a favourite destination for organising conferences, conventions and events. According to the American Express Meetings&Events report presented to the IBTM, Barcelona was the second most requested destination for organising conferences and MICE tourism. This ranking shows that large cities continue to act as magnets for attracting MICE tourism.

This recognition confirms Barcelona's position in MICE, or business, tourism. Last year it was the city with the third highest number of international conferences with a total of 181 meetings, only exceeded by Paris (196) and Vienna (186). This year, despite recent events, similar results are predicted.

Meeting or business tourism, which includes conferences, conventions and incentive travel, is a key and added value activity for the city. It is in this segment that the economic impact generated is most evenly distributed over different sectors.
