The Turisme de Barcelona Consortium is responsible for promoting the Catalan capital as a tourist destination. It is composed of an amalgamation of theOfficial Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Shipping and theBarcelona Promotion Foundation on the one hand, andBarcelona Municipal Council, on the other. They are its parents and have equal status. Turisme de Barcelona was founded in 1993 with the involvement of local government and the business world that hold an equal share in the organisation. Experience has taught us that this model isn’t easy to achieve.
Composition

The General Council, chaired by the mayor of Barcelona, is the foremost representative of Turisme de Barcelona. It comprises three vice-presidents and 26 members. The Executive Committee is the permanent governing and administrative body. It is chaired by a member of the Chamber of Commerce appointed by its president, and also has two vice-presidents.

Turisme de Barcelona has two participating institutions: the Municipal Council and the Chamber of Commerce. Nevertheless, its budget is not solely reliant on the contributions from these organisations.
